WHERE?<\/strong> In a woolshed in the Australian bush, at central\u00a0stations, on boats, in museums, libraries, streets, private\u00a0clubs, cocktail clubs, brew pubs, on roof terraces, at the top\u00a0of skyscrapers. On UNESCO World Book and Copyright\u00a0Day ILAB booksellers will bring rare books to the people in\u00a0the most unexpected places!<\/p>\n

HOW?<\/strong> Like a Mexican wave starting the day in Australia and,\u00a0as the sun goes, finishing the day in the United States, scores\u00a0of rare book dealers will be organizing Pop Up Fairs \u2013 a\u00a0mixture between bookish flash mob and speed dating for\u00a0booklovers, lasting only a few hours at unusual, but busy\u00a0locations where passers-by will discover a stunning selection\u00a0of rare books, prints, manuscripts and ephemera to promote the trade of old and rare books and to\u00a0support the UNESCO literacy projects in Africa.<\/p>\n

WHY?<\/strong> Reading is a gift, reading is a fundamental human right! \u201cThe power of books to advance\u00a0individual fulfilment and to create social change is unequalled\u201d, says Irina Bokova, Director-General of\u00a0UNESCO. Year by year on UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day booklovers worldwide\u00a0celebrate the power of the book. For the first time in 2015, the International League of Antiquarian\u00a0Booksellers (ILAB) and its affiliates will be a part of it! Each ILAB Pop Up Book Fair will feature a\u00a0large poster of an \u201cempty bookcase\u201d, symbolic book spines will be \u201csold\u201d with the money from each\u00a0going directly to UNESCO\u2019s South Sudan Project. A donation of 3 US $ will send one book to a child\u00a0in South Sudan, 15 US $ purchase a set of 12 school books for a classroom, and 500 US $ provide 45\u00a0school book collections for a rural community in Africa.<\/p>\n
